Hennepin County Sheriff sentenced to probation for DWI crash

Hennepin County Sheriff Dave Hutchinson was sentenced on Monday to two years of probation after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated last week.

Court records show Hutchinson was sentenced for one count of fourth-degree DWI. He was initially charged with four misdemeanors related to drunken driving.

His 90-day jail sentence was stayed for probation. He also has to pay $610 in fines and fees.

Hutchinson is not allowed to consume alcohol or any controlled substances during the term of probation, court records show. He must also complete a chemical assessment and submit to random testing.

Hutchinson was taken to the hospital after rolling his county-issued vehicle the morning of Dec. 8 near Alexandria. He was returning from a convention with other Minnesota sheriffs that night.

Another charge, carrying a pistol while under the influence, will be continued for dismissal at a later date.
