UPDATE 8/14/23 – A man is dead and two other people were seriously injured following a shooting Sunday night in Minneapolis.

The shooting happened at the 1500 Nicollet Apartment complex on Nicollet Avenue near East 16th Street around 8 p.m.

Dozens of officers were at the building, where they found two men – both in their 20s – with multiple gunshot wounds. One of those men later died at an area hospital, according to police. The other is now fighting for his life at HCMC.

Meanwhile, an 18-year-old woman was hospitalized for potentially life-threatening gunshot wounds.

It isn’t clear where the shooting happened, but video shows crime scene tape could be found both inside and outside of the building.

Some tenants at the 1500 Nicollet Apartments are stuck in a stage of grief after Sunday night.

“One of the residents that I’ve talked to, who happens to be one of my [church] members, and the fear of care and concern is there. Another lady that I just briefly spoke with, she’s dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder,” The Rev. Jerry McAfee said.

McAfee and A Mother’s Love initiative, a local organization, led a session in the complex to deal with trauma.

As of this time, police say their investigation indicates the shooting may have been due to a previous altercation between a group of people believed to have known each other.

“We’ve got a lot of people on the block that talk to the potential perpetrators before any of this stuff ever jumps off and so we’ve had good luck with that so far,” he said.

The Rev. McAfee said stopping the violence starts long before someone picks up a gun.

“One of the things we’ve always tried to get the city to understand is you don’t want people to just be reactionary. We’ve got to have interventional treatments,” he said.

Currently, no one has been arrested for the shooting.
