Friday night shooting leaves one dead, pregnant teen among other victims
Minneapolis police are investigating after four people were shot late Friday night in the 300 block of West Broadway Avenue.
The shooting occurred just before midnight, and police say that initial investigation suggests that gunfire “erupted” outside of a bar, with the shots possibly coming from a vehicle.
Officers located a man unconscious at the scene suffering from apparent life-threatening gunshot wounds and provided first aid before he was transported to the hospital.
That man, identified by the Hennepin County Medical examiner as 34-year-old Jerry Leonard Calhoun, died at North Memorial Medical Center early Saturday morning.
While officers were investigating the scene, three other victims from the shooting arrived at an area hospital in private vehicles.
Police say that two of the victims, aged 17 and 21, are pregnant.
A man in his 30s was the additional victim, his wounds appear to be non-life-threatening.
This is the 63rd homicide of the year in Minneapolis.
A police spokesperson could not provide a condition update on the hospitalized victims Sunday evening.
The incident is under investigation by the Minneapolis Police Department. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477). You can remain anonymous.
