Following morning outage, Sun Country says nearly all flights ‘successfully operated’

UPDATE: Sun Country says they have been able to operate nearly all flights after a system outage caused the company to ground all flights before 8 a.m. Monday.

According to the company, they were able to operate all but one flight – which they say was unrelated to the outage – following that time.

A temporary third-party outage had grounded all of Sun Country’s domestic flights before 8 a.m. The company says they’re continuing to work with the FAA to clear flights for takeoff and add they’re anticipating delays throughout the system.

Despite the delays, Sun Country believes they’ll be able to successfully operate the rest of Monday’s flights.

Sun Country initially announced full refunds were issued and change fees were waived for the domestic flights that were scheduled before 8 a.m. CT Monday due to the outage, however, the company’s website stated later in the day that all change fees have been waived for flights scheduled through Tuesday, December 28.

According to the company, the third-party program involved in the outage is a tool that tracks flight operations, such as flight timing and crew scheduling.

A company spokesperson says many of the other airlines affected by the outage are international.
