Firefighters extinguish blaze at Minneapolis encampment Thursday night

Firefighters extinguished a blaze at an encampment in Minneapolis Thursday night.

The Minneapolis Fire Department said crews responded just before 7 p.m. to a densely wooded area behind the 3600 block of Washington Avenue North.

Upon arriving at the scene, firefighters found "an abandoned deteriorating and dilapidated" shed in a homeless encampment fully engulfed in flames, according to a press release. Surrounding debris and rubbish from the encampment was also on fire.

Firefighters picked through and sprayed down the debris for an "extended period of time," to ensure the fire was extinguished.

Responding crews said no one was at the scene when they arrived, and no injuries were reported.
