FEMA performing nationwide Emergency Alert System test at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday
At 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, FEMA is performing a nationwide test of their Emergency Alert System that will cause television and radio programming to be briefly interrupted.
For people who have opted in to receiving FEMA text messages, they will get a test text at the same time. For more information on how to opt in to get the test text message, click here. If there is ever a real emergency that warrants a text from FEMA, all phones will get the alert regardless of if you opt in for the test text message.
Reminder: At 2:20 PM ET today, we will conduct a national test of the Emergency Alert System in coordination with @FCC. The test will appear on televisions & radios, while specially configured cell phones will receive an emergency alert test code message. #IPAWS pic.twitter.com/VPDMsvVEQ8
