Fatal crash in southeast metro under investigation Thursday night
Authorities are investigating a fatal crash that occurred in the southeast metro Thursday night.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, just before 7 p.m., a Chrysler PT Cruiser attempted to turn north onto Highway 61 when it T-boned with a southbound Saturn Vue. The incident took place just south of Highway 95.
The collision resulted in the death of the Chrysler’s driver — 51-year-old Jessica Ann Jackson of Woodbury — who died at the scene. The Saturn’s driver — a 19-year-old from Eagan — was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, the State Patrol reported.
The scene on Highway 61 between Cottage Grove and Hastings shut down southbound traffic for a few hours Thursday night, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Emergency personnel from Washington County, Cottage Grove police and Cottage Grove fire responded to the scene along with the State Patrol.
No alcohol was involved in the crash. The Saturn’s driver was wearing a seatbelt, but it’s unknown whether Jackson was belted, according to the State Patrol.
The crash is under investigation.
