Farmington teen dies in cliff jumping accident at Lake Byllesby
A Farmington teenager died Monday in a cliff jumping accident.
According to the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office, at about 5:25 p.m., a caller reported a boy had jumped into water off the cliffs at Lake Byllesby and hadn't surfaced.
Authorities from the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office, Dakota County Sheriff's Office, Cannon Falls police, fire and ambulance departments and the Randolph Fire Department responded.
Initial investigation indicates the victim jumped into the lake and a second person jumped immediately afterward and landed on the victim. The victim never surfaced.
The sheriff's office identified the teen as 17-year-old Garrett Berg. His body was located at 8:15 p.m.
The sheriff's office also reminded people that the cliffs can only be accessed by crossing private property, which is posted. It said deputies routinely respond to remove or cite violators and had just removed about 30 people earlier in the day.
An autopsy has been scheduled.
