Family identifies victim in fatal stolen car crash in Maplewood
The Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS it found the driver of a stolen car that crashed and killed two people Friday in Maplewood.
There were six people in the stolen car. The driver and two others ran from the crash after it happened Friday afternoon; all have been apprehended by the sheriff’s office.
A family member says Marcoz Paramo, who had just turned 14, was one of the two victims that died in the crash.
At 3:40 p.m. Friday, a Ramsey County Sheriff’s Deputy found a stolen vehicle near Beebe Road North and Holloway Avenue East and attempted to pull it over. However, the driver did not stop and a 2-mile chase began as the vehicle took off southbound on Beebe Road. The deputy pursued on Larpenteur Avenue and lost sight of the car near Clarence Street and Larpenteur. He found the vehicle crashed in a yard near Larpenteur and Chamber Street.
Near the crash site, a memorial sits to honor Paramo and the other victim.
While the sheriff’s office has not released the name of the driver they apprehended over the weekend, his grandmother, Christine Mudek, spoke with 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS near the memorial.
“It’s really terrible that it had to happen this way,” Mudek said.
“I know my grandson is hurting in more than one way — it was his best friend and other friends in the car,” Mudek added as she started to tear up.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner is expected to identify the two deceased soon.
The Minnesota State Patrol performed a crash reconstruction and the case remains under investigation.
