Ex-Minneapolis officer now in custody at federal prison in Colorado

Federal records show a former Minneapolis officer who was found guilty in connection to the murder of George Floyd is now in a federal prison.

Thomas Lane is now in custody at Federal Correctional Institution Englewood in Littleton, Colorado, just outside of Denver.

As previously reported, Lane was ordered to report to the prison on Aug. 30. A judge had previously set a voluntary surrender date for October, which would follow the sentencing date set for the state case. Lane has also pleaded guilty to the state’s charge of aiding and abetting second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s death, and is expected to be sentenced for that charge on Sept. 21.

Lane was sentenced to serve two and a half years in federal prison back in July for violating Floyd’s civil rights. He is then to serve two years of supervised release.

The Bureau of Prisons website states the prison is a low-security prison for men with an adjacent minimum security satellite camp.

Housing is listed as being dormitory or cubicle style, with life being highly regimented, including frequent head counts and having to wake at dawn.
