Emergency testing, training Aug. 2-3 in Dakota, Goodhue, Hennepin counties
Safety agencies will be conducting testing and training at locations in Dakota, Goodhue and Hennepin counties on Tuesday and Wednesday.
People can expect simulated emergency training at the Prairie Island Nuclear Generating Plant in Dakota and Goodhue counties, citywide alert system testing in Plymouth, and police training exercises at Concord Elementary School in Edina.
Those in Wisconsin can also expect field training activities in Pierce County, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety says.
Minnesota and Wisconsin state and city agencies say they will run a simulated emergency Tuesday to test federal, state and local readiness in the “unlikely event of a nuclear generating plant incident” at Prairie Island.
Residents should not be alarmed by activities carried out by emergency responders during the exercise.
At 5 p.m. Tuesday in Plymouth, residents can expect citywide tests of the Alert Plymouth system.
Plymouth city officials say the system is only used for public safety and emergency messages, not for weather, news or event alerts.
People can sign up for Alert Plymouth notifications here to receive texts, calls or emails.
Edina police say they will conduct their second day of training exercises Wednesday. The first of the two exercises was run Monday.
Edina police ask people to avoid the area around Concord Elementary School, although no disruptions are expected.
