Eagan mayor arrested, charged with DWI

The mayor of Eagan was arrested and charged for driving drunk after his vehicle got stuck in a snowbank, according to court documents.

Michael John Maguire, 52, is charged with two counts of DWI, court records show.

A criminal complaint states an Eagan police officer responded to a report of a vehicle stuck in a snowbank at Dakota Path and Shadow Creek Curve at about 8:03 p.m. on Jan. 11. When the officer arrived on scene, Maguire was in the driver's seat.

The officer noticed the scent of alcohol and saw Maguire's eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slow and slurred, the complaint states. Maguire failed the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test and refused other field sobriety tests. At that time, the officer went to place Maguire under arrest, and Maguire needed help walking to the squad car, according to the complaint.

It also states a breath test revealed a BAC of .19.

According to the city's website, Maguire served as a city council member from 2003-2007 and is now in his fourth term as Eagan mayor.

His first court appearance is set for Feb. 12.
