Surprise, surprise! Drivers will be seeing more detours this weekend. In fact, one road closure will extend through the weekend and into early next week.
Highway 212 will shut down in both directions from Highway 62 to Interstate 494 in Eden Prairie as crews set bridge beams over the highway. The work is part of the Southwest Light Rail Transit project. The eastbound lanes close Saturday at noon and won’t reopen until 5 a.m. on Thursday. Westbound stays open until Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and then shuts down until Thursday at 5 a.m.
In better news, this is the last weekend closure of the season along Highway 52. Crews have spent the last couple of months resurfacing the road between Plato Boulevard in St. Paul and I-494 in Inver Grove Heights. This weekend, the northbound lanes will close starting at 9 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
In the north metro, Interstate 94 shuts down in both directions between Highway 169 and Highway 100 as part of a bridge demolition project on Highway 100. Watch for the work starting at 10 p.m. Friday. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday. The detour takes drivers north of the closure to Highway 610 or south to Interstate 394.
Meanwhile, drivers traveling from St. Paul to Minneapolis on Sunday will see that Interstate 94 westbound will be closed for part of the day between Highway 280 and Cedar Avenue starting at 4 a.m. until noon. The ramp to Highway 280 will stay open.
