Driver of stolen vehicle in custody after crash into New Hope house

A person is in custody Wednesday and a homeowner was taken to a nearby hospital after a pursuit that spanned two cities ended with a crash into a house.

According to the Crystal Police Department, at about 10 p.m. Tuesday, an officer was pursuing the driver of a stolen vehicle along the 3200 block of Edgewood Avenue North in Crystal.

The vehicle’s driver was driving at a high rate of speed, led the officer on a chase, and ultimately crashed into a house along the 3200 block of Independence Avenue North in New Hope, police said.

The owner of the house was hit by the vehicle when it crashed into the residence’s living room. The homeowner was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries, according to police.

The driver of the stolen vehicle was taken into custody and officers learned the individual had several felony warrants for auto theft.

The Minnesota State Patrol is handling reconstruction of the incident and the New Hope Police Department is leading the investigation into the incident.

Additional information is expected to be released when it is available, police said.
