DOC investigating assault that led to Stillwater prison officer spraying chemical irritant at detained inmate
An investigation is pending into an assault that injured three corrections officers at the Stillwater prison and the aftermath which involved an officer spraying a chemical irritant at a detained inmate.
According to a statement from the Minnesota Department of Corrections, an incident occurred Friday involving three officers who were responding to a complaint and ended up being assaulted.
Following the assault, an officer went back and sprayed a chemical irritant at an inmate who was "restrained and under control." Other officers then intervened, according to the DOC.
The three officers were treated at a hospital and released; one had a laceration.
