Day 2: ‘Fire Prevention Day,’ celebrating the Cattle Barn’s 100th year at the state fair

Friday is Day 2 of the Minnesota State Fair.

According to fair organizers, it’s "Governor’s Fire Prevention Day" at the fair. From 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Dan Patch Park, fire marshals from throughout the state will answer questions about fire codes and regulations, provide information on extinguishing cooking fires, and help with safe escape planning, among other tips.

Fire trucks and firefighting gear will be on display at the North End on Underwood Street, north of Murphy Avenue.

For those seeking a break from the sights, smells and sounds of the fair will now have that option via the Fraser Sensory Building, which will offer a calming atmosphere and support staff for those who might find aspects of the fair overwhelming. The Fraser Sensory Building is located along the west side of Cosgrove Street and is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Additionally, the iconic Cattle Barn is celebrating 100 years with an educational exhibit and photo opportunity, starting at 9 a.m.

Maren Morris is set to perform with Noah Schnacky and Patrick Murphy at 7:30 p.m. at the Grandstand.

Daily events can be viewed here.

The fair will be going on from Aug. 26 to Labor Day, Sept. 6. and tickets can be brought online or at the fair.
