Crews work to douse warehouse fire in St. Paul

Crews are working to put out a large fire Saturday evening in the Lexington-Hamline neighborhood of St. Paul.

Chopper footage showed a group of warehouses on the north side of Selby Avenue just west of Hamline Avenue had collapsed from the flames.

According to St. Paul Deputy Fire Chief Mike Gaede, the fire broke out around 5:45 p.m., and firefighters were met with heavy smoke and fire pouring through the roof.

The mixed-use storage facility held "thousands" of tires, which produced billowing plumes of black smoke. Some canisters inside were "popping off" as well, but there were no explosions, Gaede said.

Five ladder trucks, 16 crews and about 50 firefighters responded to the three-alarm fire, Gaede said. Crews were expected to be at the scene "deep into the evening" to fully extinguish the tires, but the majority of the fire had been knocked down.

No injuries have been reported.
