Crash involving semi kills 1 in Nowthen; victim identified
A man is dead after a crash between a vehicle and a semi-truck in Nowthen, Wednesday afternoon.
The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office says authorities responded to a reported crash on Highway 47 near 199th Avenue Northwest at 1:22 p.m.
Early indications are a vehicle was headed south on Highway 47 when it crossed into the northbound lane and collided with a northbound semi-truck, the sheriff’s office said.
Both vehicles caught fire after the crash, and the driver of the vehicle was declared dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the semi wasn’t hurt.
Thursday, the State Patrol identified the man who died as 25-year-old Antwa-Demaylia Hughes, of Bloomington, and the semi driver as 41-year-old Jeremy Triebernig, of Princeton. The nature and cause of Hughes’ death will be released by the medical examiner’s office in the coming days.
The crash remains under investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol, Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office and the Anoka County Sheriff’s Office.
