COVID-19 update: 10 new deaths, 43 hospitalizations reported in Minnesota

Friday, the Minnesota Department of Health reported 10 new deaths from COVID-19, as well as 43 more hospitalizations.

So far, 1,847 people have died of the coronavirus in Minnesota, including 1,354 in long-term care and assisted living facilities.

As of Friday, 274 patients were hospitalized with COVID-19 and 138 were in intensive care. To date, 6,635 patients have been hospitalized in Minnesota.

According to MDH, there were 856 newly reported positive COVID-19 tests in Minnesota on Friday, bringing the state’s total to 78,966 since pandemic record-keeping began.

A total of 70,537 patients have recovered, or are recovering, and no longer need isolation, according to MDH.

As of Friday, approximately 1,558,831 tests have been completed in Minnesota and 1,168,307 people have been tested.

According to the Johns Hopkins Center for Systems Science and Engineering, the virus has infected more than 26.3 million people worldwide and killed about 869,600 people.

More than 17 million people worldwide have recovered as of Friday.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, patients with confirmed COVID-19 have mild to severe respiratory problems, with symptoms of fever, cough and shortness of breath. Some patients report having muscle aches, headache, sore throat, and/or chills and shaking.
