The pandemic is being blamed for many things, including now ending marriages.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak started in March, there has been a surge in cases of couples filing for divorce.

Recent national statistics have shown a 30% increase in divorce filings since the courts reopened.

"We’ve had more calls, more website inquires related to divorce," St. Paul divorce attorney Allison Maxium said. "They are working at home together. There’s no space. They are on top of each other and those little things that annoy you that you can get away from on a daily basis are then just amplified. They sort of reach their breaking point."

Getting a divorce in a pandemic can be difficult. Even though the courts are open, there is a backlog across the country.
