Construction worker dies after trench collapse in Lindstrom

A construction worker died Tuesday afternoon after a trench collapsed in Lindstrom.

Lakes Area Police said a 911 caller reported that a worker was the victim of a partial trench collapse at 4:28 p.m.

Construction workers at the scene were trying to extricate the victim, who was working where an apartment building was being constructed.

Police, Chisago County deputies and Lindstrom fire and rescue crews responded and helped get the 48-year-old man out of the trench. He was then put in an ambulance and taken to a landing site to be airlifted to a hospital, but police said resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead prior to air transport.

The victim’s name will be released at a later time.

An investigation is underway.
