A Waseca police officer recovering from a shot to the head was able to wish his wife a happy anniversary this week, and his church has shared audio of the milestone.

"I love you. Happy anniversary," Officer Arik Matson told his wife in a recording shared by the Rev. Kaleb Hurley, a pastor at Hope Church in Albert Lea.

The recording starts around the 1:37 mark:

Matson was shot in the head while responding to a report of a suspicious person in early January. He was moved out of intensive care and into a longer-term acute care facility this past week.

Tyler Janovsky, 37, was charged with three counts of first-degree attempted murder of a peace officer in connection with the incident.
