Child on bicycle hit by vehicle despite crosswalk lights
An 8-year-old girl on a family bike ride was struck by a vehicle Sunday evening in Victoria.
The Carver County Sheriff’s Office says that, at 4:57 p.m., a family was riding bikes on the Lake Minnetonka Regional Trail when they attempted to cross Rolling Acres Road.
Authorities say that an 87-year-old motorist failed to stop for flashing beacons activated at the crossing, even as oncoming traffic had stopped, and struck the girl.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Children’s Hospital and reported to be in stable condition.
The Victoria Fire Department, Ridgeview Ambulance Service and Carver County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
The incident is under investigation, and authorities say that the motorist is cooperating.
