Child dies of suspected drowning in Chaska
A 5-year-old child died in a suspected accidental drowning in Chaska Saturday.
The Chaska Police Department began searching for a missing 5-year-old child on Walnut Place at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. Police believe the child left a residence on foot. Rescuers eventually located the unconscious child in Brickyard Clayhole lake. Despite life-saving efforts, the child was declared dead at a hospital.
Rescue workers used a helicopter, drone and search dogs to help locate the child. The Chaska Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol, Mdewakanton Public Safety Department. Carver County Sheriff’s Office and the Minnesota Search and Rescue Dog Association worked together during the search.
"This was a tragedy," Chaska Police Chief Ryan Seibert said in a statement. "We all grieve when a life is lost, and our thoughts are with the family during this time."
The Chaska Police Department is investigating.
