Charges: Self-described Trump supporter attacked couple with golf club over political sign in Lino Lakes

A Lino Lakes man faces charges after authorities say he swung a golf club at an elderly couple because he disliked their political sign.

According to a criminal complaint, Mark Anthony Ulsaker faces one count of second-degree assault, one count of threats of violence and one count of fourth-degree assault.

According to the complaint, police were called Sunday afternoon to the area of Highway 96 and Centerville Road on the report of a man assaulting two elderly people.

When police arrived, they spoke with a witness who said a man walked up behind an elderly couple and began swinging a golf club at them. The witness said the golf club broke, leading the man to punch the male victim in the head. The man then fled the scene, according to the witness.

The female victim told police that she and her husband had been sitting on the corner with a homemade political sign when the man drove up in his pickup truck and shouted expletives at them. The complaint said the victim told police the man then began to swing the golf club at them.

Witnesses were able to provide a license plate number for the vehicle, which led police to Ulsaker.

According to the complaint, Ulsaker resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.

During an interview with police, Ulsaker said he was a President Donald Trump supporter and that he was angered by the couple’s political sign, according to the complaint.

In the interview, Ulsaker said he swung the golf club at the couple and that he punched the man in the face, the complaint says.
