Byron Buxton out ‘weeks,’ according to Twins manager
Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton will miss "weeks" of action, according to manager Rocco Baldelli.
Specifics on the exact amount of time missed are unknown at this time. Buxton suffered a grade-2 hip strain and has been placed on the 10-day Injured List.
In a responding move, the Twins are calling up their 2018 first-round draft pick Trevor Larnach. He is ranked as the 69th-best prospect in baseball by MLB.com.
The 24-year-old outfielder will make his Major League debut. In 172 career Minor League games, Larnach has hit .306, with 20 home runs and 96 RBI in 641 at-bats. Two of his three hits this season for the St. Paul Saints have been home runs, according to MiLB.com.
To make room for Larnach on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated left-handed pitcher Brandon Waddell for release or assignment. Waddell made four appearances over two stints with the Twins this season.
