Brooklyn Center selects new police chief

Brooklyn Center officials have announced who will be the next leader of the city’s police department.
According to the city, Kellace McDaniel has been named the city’s new police chief.
According to Brooklyn Center City Manager Dr. Reginald Edwards, McDaniel will begin serving in his new role on Monday, June 27.
Currently, Tony Gruenig is serving as the city’s interim police chief. Former chief Tim Gannon resigned two days after the fatal shooting of Daunte Wright by former officer Kim Potter.

Previously, McDaniel served as a lieutenant with the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, according to the city. He also helped provide security for two presidential inaugurations.
