Brooklyn Center, other metro cities issue citywide curfews

Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, St. Paul and other local governments have issued citywide curfews for Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.

The curfews come after two nights of unrest following the shooting death of Daunte Wright by police.

Curfews in Brooklyn Center, Minneapolis, St. Paul, Crystal, Columbia Heights, New Hope and Maple Grove will be in effect from 10 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.

A curfew for Champlin has been put in place from 7 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday and a curfew for Brooklyn Park have also been put in place from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 6 a.m. Wednesday.

Exemptions in Minneapolis include for credentialed members of the press, law enforcement, emergency responders, those traveling to and from work or religious services, and the following community patrol organizations: A Mother’s Love, Center for Multicultural Mediation, Native American Community Development Institute (NACDI), Corcoran Neighborhood Organization and T.O.U.C.H. Outreach, Change Equals Opportunity (C.E.O.), Restoration Inc., and We Push for Peace.

Exemptions to the Crystal curfew include law enforcement, emergency responders and people traveling to and from work or religious services.

People seeking medical care, individuals fleeing dangerous situations and those experiencing homelessness are also exempt from the curfew.

Metro Transit announced Tuesday evening that it will continue to operate bus and train services in cities where curfews have been put in place.
