Bob Dylan grew up in Hibbing and has been called one of America’s most important and influential artists.
Tuesday the Bob Dylan Center will open in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with more than 100,000 items from his amazing career.
About five years ago, the University of Tulsa and local billionaire George Kaiser bought the Dylan archive for an estimated $20 million. The group, including Dylan, decided to open the museum in Oklahoma instead of Minnesota.
“I know, ‘Why not Hibbing?’ of course,” said Steve Jenkins, director of the Bob Dylan Center. “I understand for home-towners of their local boy made good. It’s hard sometimes to really assess Dylan’s decision-making process.”
