Baby’s father charged in fatal shooting of pregnant woman; arrest warrant issued

A man has been charged in the death of a pregnant Minneapolis woman.

According to the Hennepin County Attorney’s Office, 27-year-old Zachary Robinson has been charged with second-degree murder, second-degree assault and felon in possession of a gun. A warrant has been issued for Robinson’s arrest and police are searching for him.

A criminal complaint states that on Sunday, July 5, police were called to a shooting at the George Floyd Memorial site at 38th Street and Chicago Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a Ford Explorer that have been shot a block away at 37th Street and Elliot Avenue. Leneesha Columbus, 27, was outside the vehicle and bystanders were attempting lifesaving measures on her.

Columbus, who was pregnant at the time, died as a result of her injuries. The child she was carrying was delivered and is currently in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in critical condition. The child is said to have been both Robinson’s and Columbus’.

Witnesses at the scene said they saw Robinson and Columbus arguing near the Ford Explorer. At one point, Columbus got in the vehicle and began to drive away, but Robinson then fired several shots at the vehicle.

A man who was working as a peacekeeper at the memorial site confronted Robinson following the initial shooting and asked what he was doing, and Robinson proceeded to pull his gun and shoot the man in the foot, the complaint states.
