Anoka County Sheriff’s Office investigates death in Columbia Heights, suspect in custody
Anoka County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a death after a woman died in Columbia Heights Saturday morning.
According to the sheriff’s office, at 6 a.m., police responded to a 911 call at a residence in the 5100 block of Fourth Street Northeast. When officers arrived, they located a 33-year-old woman with injuries.
With the assistance of Allina EMS and Columbia Heights Fire Department, police said officers provided lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the sheriff’s office, a 32-year-old suspect who was taken into custody has been identified as Albert Shaheed Newson. The suspect was booked into Anoka County Jail on probable cause of first-degree manslaughter.
The suspect has not been formally charged at this time, said police.
Police said the case appears to be an isolated domestic-related incident with no ongoing threat to the public.
The incident remains under investigation. More information will be released at a later time.
