A shooting that left three people dead in Apple Valley Saturday was committed by a man described by family members and neighbors as mentally ill, according to a search warrant application.
At about 12:18 p.m. Saturday, Apple Valley police responded to a home in the 13000 block of Upper Elkwood Court after a family friend reported finding three people dead in the home.
According to the affidavit, the woman said she was concerned for their welfare so she went to the home to check on them. Once inside, she found two men, a woman and two dogs all deceased and called police.

The affidavit says agents found multiple firearms, laptops and cellphones inside, along with evidence supporting a possible murder-suicide scenario.
It notes that the two men were brothers and the woman was their mother. The woman and one of the men were found with bullet wounds while the other man was found with what police called a likely self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Family members and neighbors described one of the men to officers as "an undiagnosed paranoid schizophrenic," according to the warrant application, adding that the man was subject to fits of rage and confrontational behavior.
The medical examiner's office hasn't yet identified the victims.
The investigation into the shooting remains active.
