9-year-old boy killed in ATV crash in Morrison County

A 9-year-old boy died after he was launched from an ATV during a crash Saturday evening in rural Morrison County.

According to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of an ATV crash with injuries just after 5 p.m. on a property off of 103rd Street, east of 400th Avenue, in Lakin Township.

A 10-year-old boy was driving a Polaris side-by-side ATV with the 9-year-old passenger near a cornfield when the driver lost control, flipping the ATV and ejecting both occupants.

Lifesaving measures on the 9-year-old were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. The 10-year-old was taken to a hospital in St. Cloud with minor injuries and was later released.

The crash remains under investigation, and no other details were immediately available.
