66-year-old Kansas man drowns in Crow Wing County
A 66-year-old Kansas man died Monday afternoon after he was pulled unconscious from a lake in Emily, Minnesota.
According to the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, the victim, identified as Edward Rando of Towanda, Kansas, had been swimming near a pontoon in Ruth Lake when he "became distressed." People tried to get flotation devices to him, but he became unresponsive.
Boaters at the nearby access responded to calls for help and assisted in getting Rando out of the water.
Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Rando was pronounced dead at the scene. He was taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office, which listed his apparent cause of death as drowning.
