4 new flu deaths, 42 new hospitalizations reported in Minnesota

Four new influenza-related deaths have been reported in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Health’s (MDH) latest report.

MDH’s latest flu activity report shows the four new deaths have bumped the 2021-22 flu season’s total up to 22. That includes one pediatric death, according to the report.

The median age of flu deaths is now at 73.5, according to MDH.

Meanwhile, MDH states there were 42 new flu-related hospitalizations reported across the state. The state has so far recorded 473 total flu-related hospitalizations this season.

In schools, MDH reported there were 30 new flu-related outbreaks and in long-term care centers, there were five new outbreaks. A total of 171 flu-related school outbreaks have been reported across the state this season compared to 26 long-term care outbreaks.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Minnesota currrently has minimal flu activity.
