Lake Street in Minneapolis has reopened Friday after police cleared out protesters in Uptown overnight.
A 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS camera captured Minneapolis firefighters putting out smoldering dumpsters in the middle of the street near Girard Avenue. Protesters have gathered in the area since the shooting of Winston Smith earlier this month.
In an update Friday, police said they made four arrests. An update on damage has not yet been released.
Earlier Thursday, protesters blocked the street off to traffic using makeshift barriers.
Mayor Jacob Frey has said the city won’t allow people to block such a busy street. Frey has said the barriers on Lake Street pose a safety threat because of how busy the area is and because there are no clear markers indicating where people and drivers can go.
