3 fatally shot as result of 'acts of family violence,' Apple Valley police say

It’s an unusual, sad sight in a quiet Apple Valley neighborhood: crime scene tape, posted outside an Upper Elkwood Court Home, where three people were found shot to death on Saturday.

“It’s sad, very sad,” said Denny Borowski, who’s lived in the area since the mid-1970s. 

The Apple Valley Police Department said officers responded to a report that multiple people had been shot around 12:18 p.m. Saturday in a residence in the 13600 block of Upper Elkwood Court.

Police say the deaths appear to be “acts of family violence" and ended with the shooter “ending their own life.” 

Three adult victims, two male and one female, were found in the residence, and all appeared to have died from gunshot wounds, but it's unclear who played what role in the deadly gunfire.

“We’re just kind of shattered,” said Doug Jones, a neighbor. “She had two grown sons who were living there.” 

Jones said the woman who lived at the home was a friendly, sweet person. 

Property records show the homeowner is a 60-year old woman. Records also show a 23-year old man, with the same last name, living there. 

“It’s just awful, and we met only one of the sons,” Jones says. “He seemed nice. The mother was just one of the nicest persons you’d want to meet.” 

Police say there’s no threat to the community. 

Investigators say they’ve interviewed family members, friends, and neighbors, to try to piece together what happened. 

The medical examiner’s office is investigating to make a formal identification and cause of death for the three people killed. 

Meanwhile, many here are still trying to come to grips with the deaths of three people in their neighborhood.  

“It’s quite a shock because there is nothing that takes place in this community,” Borowski says. “We don’t see this at all.”
