Three people are dead after three separate shootings within a half-hour early Saturday morning across Minneapolis.

According to police, at 1:37 a.m., officers were notified that a gunshot wound victim had shown up at North Memorial Medical Center. Officers responded to the hospital to speak to the victim. Upon arrival, they were advised that the woman victim had succumbed to her injuries.

Homicide detectives found the site of the shooting on the 2200 block of North Second Street, where they processed the scene and collected evidence.

At 1:48 a.m., police responded to the area of East Lake Street and Hiawatha Avenue on a report of a person shot underneath a bridge. Officers arrived and located a man suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police said officers performed life-saving measures before turning him over to paramedics, who took him to Hennepin County Medical Center in grave condition. Officers learned that the victim died a short time after arriving at the hospital.

Homicide investigators arrived at the scene and assisted patrol officers in speaking with people. Detectives learned that a group of people in cars took over the portion of East Lake Street underneath Hiawatha Avenue. The people in the cars were driving recklessly and spinning around in their cars when two people got into an argument and started shooting at each other. A stray bullet struck a man who had pulled over to watch these vehicles. The victim was outside of his car when the bullet struck him.

Police say the third shooting happened just after 2 a.m. near Hennepin Avenue and South Fifth Street. A Metro Transit police officer came across an altercation in the area and saw a man shoot another man. The Metro Transit officer then shot the suspect in the leg.

According to Metro Transit police, the victim who was shot was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect was treated at the hospital for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was released into police custody.

The suspect in that shooting is being held at the Hennepin County Jail pending criminal charges.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating the incident where the officer shot at the suspect, while the Minneapolis Police Department is investigating the fatal shooting.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will identify the victims and determine the nature and cause of death in each of these cases.
