2-year-old child dies, Minneapolis police investigate as ‘suspicious death’

The Minneapolis Police Department is investigating the death of a two-year-old boy after he was found unresponsive while with his mother Wednesday evening.

A news release from the Minneapolis Police Department says officers responded to an apartment near the intersection of 24th Street East and Oakland Avenue at about 5:15 p.m., after receiving a report of a child not breathing.

Police found the child with his mother and began life-saving measures before the child was taken to the hospital, according to the news release. Despite all efforts, the child died at the hospital. A 4-month-old male sibling was also taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Police say they are investigating the incident as a “suspicious death.”

More information will be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office once the cause and nature of the death are determined.

This is the 32nd death investigated as a homicide in Minneapolis this year, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.
