At least two people, including a 3-year-old boy, were injured Friday night in a north Minneapolis shooting.

According to Minneapolis Police Director of Public Information John Elder, officers responded to multiple calls of a shooting in the 3300 block of Emerson Avenue North at about 9:47 p.m.

There, officers found a 3-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. After learning paramedics were still several minutes away, officers transported the boy to a hospital, likely saving his life, Elder said.

"I was just talking to the mother who had her world crashed tonight," Elder said. "Seeing this many kids being shot is heartbreaking, absolutely heartbreaking," he added.

A man believed to be in his 30s was also found to be suffering from a gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital by ambulance. Elder said police believe both victims will survive.

A third person showed up at Hennepin County Medical Center with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound around 10:20 p.m. Preliminary investigation indicates the victim’s injuries might also be related to the shooting on Emerson, police said.

The suspect is believed to have run away from the scene. No arrests have been made at this time.

An investigation is underway.
