2 dead, 1 injured in Douglas County crash after car drives through stop sign

A two-vehicle crash Sunday in west-central Minnesota left two people dead and another injured, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

The crash report states that around 5:24 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a crash with injuries at County Road 3 Southeast and Hope Road Southeast in Osakis, Minnesota. Two vehicles, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado and a 1999 Volkswagen Beetle, were involved in the crash.

According to initial investigation, the Silverado was headed north on County Road 3, and the Beetle was headed east on Hope Road. The Beetle failed to stop at a stop sign and the Silverado hit it on the passenger side door.

The driver of the Silverado, a 19-year-old from Osakis, was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.

The driver of the Beetle, a 24-year-old man from Glenwood, Minnesota, had serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the Beetle, a 21-year-old from Marshall, Minnesota, was also pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated from the vehicle.

All names are being withheld pending family notification.

The crash remains under investigation.
