2 dead, 1 injured in Apple Valley shooting

Two people are dead and one man is injured following a shooting in an Apple Valley apartment Wednesday night.

According to the Apple Valley Police Department, at 8:42 p.m., officers responded to the 7600 block of 157th Street West after reports of a man in an apartment building hallway with a handgun. Some of the callers reported hearing gunshots.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they located a man in the building’s hallway suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the hospital and is expected to survive.

Officers had also checked a nearby apartment and located a second victim, a woman with an apparent gunshot wound. According to police, the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were able to develop information on an male suspect who also resided in the apartment building. A warrant was executed for his apartment and entry was made, but upon entering, the suspect was found dead in the apartment from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said.

The incident remains active and under investigation. According to police, there is no further threat to the community.
