Ready or not, here come more weekend closures. For the next several weeks, we’ll see back-to-back weekend closures along Interstate 94 in the north metro.

According to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT), I-94 westbound will shut down between Highway 100 and Brooklyn Boulevard in Brooklyn Center starting at 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.

The work is part of a larger repair and resurfacing project. Drivers have a couple of options for detours: Travel north on Highway 252, to Highway 610 and Highway 169 or head south on Highway 100 to I-394 and Highway 169.

MnDOT says this project will require four directional weekend closures. The first three will happen back to back, starting with this weekend.

Next weekend, closures will affect eastbound I-94.

The weekend of April 30 through May 3, the westbound lanes will close again.

Weather permitting, the final closure of I-94 eastbound is set for the weekend of May 7-10.

In the meantime, all work related to this project should be complete by early June. Learn more here.
