18-year-old dies in Brooklyn Park after firework explodes in face

A young adult died overnight from fireworks-related injuries, Brooklyn Park police say.

Responders arrived around 1:30 a.m. Monday at a park on the 9800 block of Fallgold Parkway North after police received a report that a firework had exploded in someone’s face.

On the scene, authorities found an 18-year-old man with severe wounds to his hands and face. A friend was performing CPR.

North Ambulance Paramedics joined Brooklyn Park fire and police departments in performing life-saving measures before the man was taken to North Memorial Hospital.

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office on Tuesday identified the victim as Jack Kocur of Brooklyn Park.
