Officers are investigating two deadly shootings in the metro area.

A 17-year-old girl died after being shot in Minneapolis and a 22-year-old man died after being shot in Columbia Heights.

Both shooting victims were brought North Memorial Medical Center where they were pronounced dead.

In both cases, police and sheriff’s deputies are looking for the shooters.

For the Minneapolis Police Department Homicide Unit, the shooting at about 11:30 p.m. Monday along the 2300 block of James Avenue North is its 50th investigation of the year.

Police were called to the area after receiving a ShotSpotter notification.

"Officers arrived in the area, did not locate any victim or anyone reporting a crime," department spokesman John Elder said. "Moments later, they were notified by North Memorial Medical Center that a 17-year-old female had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle and that female had since died."

Friends and family told KSTP Reporter Eric Chaloux 17-year-old Serenity Shief died as a result of the shooting.

Later Tuesday, Elder issued the following statement on the incident, as police are still looking for tips from the public on potential suspects.

"The Minneapolis Police Department Homicide Unit investigators have worked through the night on this case.

Whereas headway is being made, we are asking for the public’s help. We believe people have information that will help bring the killers of a 17-year-old child to justice. The MPD has a strong track record in getting suspects arrested and charged when the community steps up and cooperates.

We are asking people to contact CrimeStoppers of Minnesota if they have any information, no matter how small. Anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the killer in this case may be eligible for a financial reward. All tips are anonymous.

In Columbia Heights, police and deputies were called to the 4600 block of Central Avenue Northeast at about 10:30 p.m. Monday after a man was shot in a parking lot.

Emergency crews transported him to North Memorial where he later died. On Monday, he was identified as Charles Ray Mosby Jr., of Anoka.

In that case, investigators said they only know that a car left the scene after the shooting.

So far, no arrests have been made in either case.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office has since corrected the location of the shooting.
