15-year-old identified as victim of fatal New Year’s Eve shooting in Minneapolis

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified 15-year-old Santana Jackson as the victim in a fatal shooting Friday in north Minneapolis.

Jackson died of multiple gunshot wounds after he was shot around 4:30 p.m. on the 2400 block of Dupont Avenue North, the autopsy report states. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another victim, identified as a 16-year-old boy, arrived at North Memorial Health Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries connected to the shooting, according to the Minneapolis Police Department. His name has not been released as of this time.

The two boys were walking in the area when someone fired shots from a vehicle, police said. There were no suspects in the area by the time police got there.

Jackson’s death marked the 95th homicide in Minneapolis last year.
