11-year-old shot, taken to hospital in St. Paul
An 11-year-old was taken to a hospital after being shot in St. Paul, early Friday morning.
According to St. Paul police, multiple callers reported hearing several shots fired and someone screaming on the 600 block of Case Avenue just after midnight.
When officers arrived, they found an 11-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound to her leg.
Officers rendered aid until paramedics arrived and transported the girl to a hospital.
Police said officers also noticed a bullet hole in the ceiling directly above where the girl was sitting in the home. The girl’s mother told them the shooting had happened in her adult son’s bedroom when he had a friend over. After the gunshot, the friend ran from the scene, the woman said.
SPPD said the suspect later turned himself in to police and surrendered his gun, which was stolen. He was booked for reckless discharge of a firearm, possession of a gun without a permit and receiving stolen property, according to police.
The shooting is believed to have been accidental, police said.
