1 man dead, another injured after shooting at party in Minneapolis

A man in his 20s died at North Memorial Medical Center after being shot early Sunday morning at a party in Minneapolis, marking what is likely the city’s first homicide investigation of 2023.

No arrests have been made as of Sunday afternoon, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

Officers responding to multiple reports of a shooting around 3:40 a.m. Sunday found a man with life-threatening gunshot wounds seated in a vehicle at 42nd Avenue North and Lyndale Avenue North.

Responders took the man to the hospital, where he later died. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner will release his identity.

Police say the shooting occurred at 4430 Lyndale Avenue N., where a building had been rented for an “after-hours party.” After clearing the building, police found evidence of a shooting inside and recovered three guns.

Early police information indicates people who knew each other got into a verbal altercation that escalated to gunfire, and multiple shots were fired inside the building while the party was happening.

Three hours after officers found the first man, a second man in his 40s went to North Memorial Medical Center to be treated for non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police say they believe the second man was injured in the shooting at 4430 Lyndale Avenue N.

Police have not released any more information at this time. Check back for updates.
