1 dead, 6 injured from 7 separate shootings in Minneapolis

Seven separate shootings left one person dead and six injured across Minneapolis overnight Saturday and into Sunday morning, according to the Minneapolis Police Department.

The first shooting happened just after 9 p.m. on the 2600 block of Upton Avenue North. Police say officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation and were told en route that the incident was a shooting. The victim was not at the scene by the time officers arrived; they were advised that the victim had showed up at North Memorial Health Hospital with a gunshot wound. He later died at the hospital.

Around 10:49 p.m. Saturday, a victim was shot while inside a vehicle in the 3500 block of Clinton Avenue South. According to police, the suspect or suspects fled the scene before officers arrived. An ambulance took the shooting victim to Hennepin County Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

About an hour and a half later, around 12:20 a.m. Sunday, officers responded to a report of a shooting at 1400 block of Portland Avenue in the Elliot Park neighborhood. Police say they found a man inside an apartment who had been shot multiple times. According to initial investigation, a known suspect showed up at the apartment and shot the victim during a confrontation. The suspect fled the scene, and an ambulance took the victim to the hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

The fourth shooting happened an hour later, when officers respond to a report of a person who had been shot inside a building around 1:21 a.m. on the 2400 block of Golden Valley Road in north Minneapolis. Once officers arrived, they found a woman inside the residence with a gunshot wound considered not life-threatening. Police said the residence had been breached before the victim being shot. The victim was transported to North Memorial.

Police say a couple of hours later, at 3:06 a.m., squads responded to the report of a fight involving roughly 30 people in the lobby of a business on the 600 block of Second Avenue South in downtown Minneapolis. While squads were en route, they were advised that this was now a shooting. Some people fled as officers arrived, and a woman was found with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to one of her limbs and was taken to HCMC.

The sixth shooting also happened in downtown Minneapolis just a few minutes later, at 3:11 a.m. According to police, officers responded to the 1500 block of Nicollet Avenue and found a man with a serious gunshot wound not believed to be life-threatening. Medics loaded the victim into the ambulance and took him to HCMC. Officers spoke with the victim and located a scene on Nicollet near the Interstate 94 overpass.

The last shooting happened at 5:22 a.m. Police say officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation on the 2600 block of 17th Avenue South. Officers arrived and located a man suffering from a gunshot wound to the side. The injury is not believed to be life-threatening. Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that the victim and suspect may be known to one another.

All incidents are under investigation, and as of Sunday morning, no arrests have been made.
