1 dead, 1 injured from gunshot wounds in Long Prairie; no suspects in custody

A victim died and another injured from gunshot wounds Saturday night in Long Prairie, according to the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.

At around 9 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting in rural Long Prairie.

According to the sheriff’s office, an individual’s vehicle was stopped by another deputy near the intersection of US 71 and Riverside Drive.

The driver of the vehicle was suffering from a gunshot wound and was transported to Long Prairie Hospital.

The passenger of the vehicle had suffered from an apparent fatal gunshot wound. The victim in the passenger seat was pronounced dead at the scene of the traffic stop.

The sheriff’s office stated that the investigation revealed that the two victims had arranged to meet some acquaintances in rural Long Prairie. It is believed that the meeting was related to a drug transaction.

Authorities believe the suspects know the victims and the incident appears to be an isolated act.

The victim who died was transported to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office to be positively identified and autopsy.

The MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.

The Todd County Sheriff’s Office urges anyone that may have seen any vehicles or people near the intersection of County 38 and County 11 between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to contact the Todd County Sheriff’s Office.
